We always like a challenge at Advance Display Solutions and when we were approached by the local Fire Station to help with their charity fund raising efforts we couldn’t resist.
They used to have a toy house with flames leaping from the windows that budding firefighters could then douse with water and extinguish the fires, sadly this had fallen into disrepair and the Fire Service asked if we could provide a replacement.
Our production manager Shayne Franklin (who is also a retained firefighter) and his team put their thinking caps on and came up with a design for a really neat unit that folds flat for easy transportation and storage but is also easily assembled. A crucial attribute was for the house to be very robust as it would be blasted with water from a real fire hose.
The house was made from aluminium composite sheet that is moisture resistant, light weight and extremely strong. The house façade was printed direct to the material using our Arizona Flatbed printer and the flames in each window were mounted on hinges so that young fire fighters could knock them over with a blast of water.
The house made its first appearance at a charity fundraising event at Xscape Milton Keynes on Saturday where over £5000 was raised for the Fire Fighters charity.
